First appearance: Vs: X US Vs UK Extreme Horror (Shadow Work Publishing) 04 December 2017
Second appearance: Year’s Best Hardcore Horror Volume 3 (Red Room Press) 04 May 2018
Queenie's ultimate torture porn. This story is so brutal that when it was published in the Year's Best Hardcore Horror Volume 3, it required a warning.
This will be available as a standalone for the first time ever on 03 January 2023 (that's less than one month away) from godless.com.
It starts with X naked and crawling on the floor, the early stages of withdrawal are hitting her. It doesn't really get progressively worse, say like 120 Days of Sodom, everything that happens to X is brutal and it is as equally horrible at the beginning as it is at the ending. At least in De Sade, there is some progression (not like any of his start out particularly pleasantly either), but Theatrum Mortuum is only a short story, I wrote it one day and put the finishing touches on the next (likely cutting anything that wasn't brutal).
The idea for the story originated with a bad mood, no one fucking listening to me (as usual) and a Placebo song. So I basically built a brutal AF story around a small bit in the middle where a body was found in the lake. Go me!
When this was released the second time around, I told people that if they want to read more, they should check out Reptile. This is still pretty accurate if you want to prepare yourself, or if you are okay with fucked up narration, try Strip/Becoming. You could even try Stara, which was out at the time but not in paperback (I've since self-published it a few years after getting the rights back). If you have any questions about my extreme horror credentials, let Theatrum Mortuum remind you that I was writing extreme before this latest batch of authors that seem to get all the attention.
I also can't spell Theatrum Mortuum despite those years of Latin and Latin having really simple spellings if you are a native English speaker (although I still find Anglo Saxon to have the easiest of all spellings).
And the Placebo song in question (there was actually more than one, all by Placebo, but this one sparked the initial story idea). This song also influenced Broccoli to an extent.
