Unfortunately the self-rescue pigeon didn't make it. It lasted through the night but passed yesterday afternoon. Pigeon rehab spaces are few and far in between, so I plan on picking up antibiotics for common pigeon illnesses once my royalties come in (also will pick up the stuff for the cut-up project).
Due to the debt of "freelance isn't a real job and I'm going to dump a bunch of word-salad on you" book and art sales allow me to buy things like antibiotics for pigeons, clothing, Christmas, etc. Then add the cost of living crisis to that (it is bad here in the UK, on top of post-Covid and the war in Ukraine, we have Brexit to contend with) so all these book sales are so greatly appreciated. I haven't really been keeping track these past few weeks (very busy, very hot, health problem playing up, etc), but I do know because people have told me that Sparky the Spunky Robot is enjoying high sales. And I did see a hit on Karen and the Crabs From Outer Space (I really need to sort out that cover). Karen and the Crabs From Outer Space picks up after the events of Sparky the Spunky Robot. I do know other books are selling as well, but I've been so busy trying to get these two novellas done that I haven't been keeping particularly good track of sales. But know that even if I don't list the title you purchased, it is so greatly appreciated. Every single book sale and review means a lot to me.
This brings me to my next point though, I need the actual time to write the books and draw the damn pictures (haven't even picked up the circuit bending in six months). That means that I cannot reply on social media right away. Yes, I have been keeping my notifications off. Some people understand this and respect it. However, there are still too many people who don't. I have touched on this issue before as a guest post on Simon Bestwick's blog, which you can read here and then for the second part here. No one should be expected to be available 24/7. But lately, I have been increasingly chewed out over being 'unfriendly'. Having boundaries is not 'unfriendly'. It is normal. Self-care is normal. Ensuring I can make ends meet is normal. I don't know when it became not normal to look after one's self and ensure one can meet their needs and their child's needs.
And on that thought, I am going to write the damn books now. One of these is being self-published and as it is a fairy story, it will need a hand drawn cover like with The Midnight Pumpkin Fucker and The Snow Queen. These are the last two before I can get back to Snow White, which is obviously very important to me. Plus I have some experimental stuff running in the background in addition to the cut up project (prose-poetry like with 56 Seconds and Becoming, not second-person bashing writing rules like with Broccoli).
